Re: Dementia
Thanks for the kind words.
Dementia is different from many diseases.
Once you've got it you won't really be able to tell your loved ones what you expect.
Also, until you've experienced this first hand it's difficult to imagine how it is.
I'm much more ready for death now I've seen it twice in a year but it would never be easy.
I strongly recommend you discuss it with your loved ones. It definitely helps.

Re: Dementia
Sorry to hear that Branded.
My Mum passed away in a similar way a couple of weeks ago after years of bipolar developed into dementia.
As sad and difficult as it is I do feel that it was for the best for her .... and she had expressed the wish that she didn't want to live on as her quality of life disappeared.
Hope you can be comforted by the happy memories of life with your Mum.

Really sorry for your loss, Branded.

Far Cough - it doesn't directly cause death but it precipitates a general decline quite apart from being a bastard of a condition in itself.

Re: Dementia
Branded - sorry mate.

We will all die of something; cancer and dementia appear to be the most likely on current evidence. Can we stop this? Is it about reducing it? And if we eradicate it, what takes its place?

Re: Dementia
So sorry to hear that Branded. My mom died in February after a shourt bout against cancer, but before that she showed signs of dementia which was hard to bear.

Those symptoms were basically signs of a totally messed up salt balance within her body, most likely being early indicators of her cancer which stayed undetected for a long time.

I was with my mom the entire week before she died. At a certain stage the dying body just tells a person not to take in any more food or drink as essentially it's no longer necessary once you have started that journey to death.

It's been half a year now but I don't think you ever truly get over the death of your mom.

Re: Dementia
Ouch. I feel for you mate as I lost my mum a couple of months ago but blessedly it was very sudden although she suffered from poor mental health in her last 5 or 6 years. You lost your dad recently too didn't you?

I'm very sorry for your loss. Genuinely.

Strangely from my end of the telescope I felt vaguely happy for my mum as she didn't have much of a life looking after my old man who has big health issues of his own. She had her hands full with him which I think contributed to her triggering bipolar episodes a few days after she retired.

As we're both old enough to know by now, there are worse on this earth things than dying. Try to remember that mate and stay strong.

Re: Dementia
We tried our very best to do the right thing for her but she left no instructions so we had to judge what she would have wanted.

I suggest you write down what you expect from people when you no longer can make any judgements.
